Laiba also became one of our first Peer Facilitators in the ComKids Peer-to-Peer Mentorship Program, where alumni lead digital education workshops for younger students.
Today, she’s completing her degree at the University of Toronto while pursuing Medical School in the Fall of 2026 and contributing to research at St. Michael’s Hospital and SickKids Hospital—a true reflection of her passion for learning, service, and community.
We’re also very proud to celebrate Laiba as a TELUS Student Bursary Award recipient, made possible by one of our most dedicated partners, TELUS Friendly Future Foundation, whose support helps youth like Laiba pursue their dreams.
Beyond her studies, Laiba co-founded Youth Food For Thought (YFT)—a student-led initiative at U of T providing mentorship to BIPOC and low-income middle school students, many from immigrant and refugee families, helping them access educational, extracurricular, and financial opportunities. Laiba now dedicates over 50 hours per semester mentoring and sourcing community sponsors to make these programs thrive.
