Established in 1998, ComKids Foundation is a registered Canadian charity that developed due to the lack of access students have to technology and digital literacy resources. Our program offers youth a brand-new device, as well as digital literacy workshops including online safety, skills training and mental health awareness to improve their skills, knowledge and confidence when it comes to using technology.
Computers and digital literacy are essential to the success of today’s youth, yet we continue to see students with academic potential who do not have the same access to technology as their peers.
That’s why the ComKids program was established to level the playing field for students by providing technology and support in the form of educator mentorship so they have the means to succeed.
More than 10,000 youth and their families have been supported to date. More Youth have enrolled in the program in the last 4 years than all the previous years combined.
“Participating in the ComKids program was a transformative experience that helped to shape my grade 7 students into well rounded critical thinkers. By providing computers to some of our most underprivileged students the program helped greatly to bridge the digital divide…The program not only expanded their horizons but also instilled in them the confidence to pursue ambitious goals. Thanks to your program, my grade 7 class is now empowered to make a meaningful impact and contribute to shaping a better tomorrow.”
Teacher Grade 7
“It was really wonderful to be able to know that from now on our students in their homes will be able to do homework on their own on their own computers without having to borrow devices. The advantage for our kids in this program is the fact that our teachers are receiving training extra information and resources that they can use to help support teaching their students about working online and about online communities.”
JIAS, Facilitator
“ComKids, in collaboration with Springboard, designed and develop a Youth Mental Health Digital Workshop Series to enhance the existing ComKids program delivery to reflect the increasing mental health challenges faced by young people living in the Digital Age. Providing authoritative information regarding mental health, offering guidance and strategies to ensure resilience and wellbeing, and identification of specialist support.
